Filling Holes with Epoxy

Ahoy, fellow sailors! Welcome back to another edition of Boat Bit Friday, where we share tips, tricks, and insights from our ongoing boat renovation journey. Today, we're diving into the nitty-gritty of filling holes with epoxy—a crucial step in our quest to restore our beloved vessel to its former glory.

As many of you know, one of the key challenges we've faced in our renovation process is dealing with the remnants of old stanchions that were improperly installed. These unsightly holes not only detract from the aesthetic appeal of our boat but also pose a potential risk if left untreated. So, armed with determination and a hefty dose of epoxy, we set out to tackle this pesky problem once and for all.

The first step in our process was to countersink the holes, creating a smooth surface for the epoxy to adhere to. With this crucial step completed, it was time to mix up a batch of thickened epoxy—a task expertly handled by our resident epoxy maestro, Todd. As the epoxy reached the perfect consistency, we wasted no time in filling the syringe and preparing to inject it into the waiting holes.

Now, here's where things got interesting. In a moment of sheer ingenuity (or perhaps desperation), we improvised a makeshift syringe using nothing more than an old bag clip and a touch of creativity. While we may have forgotten to hit the record button on the camera (oops!), rest assured that our MacGyver-esque solution did the trick, allowing us to efficiently fill each hole with precision and ease.

With the holes filled and the syringe retired, we turned our attention to the finishing touches. A final blob of epoxy smoothed over the surface, followed by a deft hand wielding a yellow fairing tool, ensured that our repairs were seamless and virtually undetectable.

As we wrapped up our epoxy-filled adventure, we couldn't help but reflect on the ingenuity and resourcefulness that define the spirit of boat renovation. While our methods may not always be conventional, they get the job done—a testament to the resilience and determination of sailors everywhere.

So, whether you're tackling a similar project on your own vessel or simply along for the ride, we hope you found this week's Boat Bit Friday both informative and entertaining. Stay tuned for more insights, tips, and adventures from our ongoing renovation journey.

Fair winds and smooth sailing,
